WHEN FASHION MEETS ART

Prabal Gurung

Prabal Gurung took inspiration from artist Noboyoshi Araki's work, specifically a series of photographs named "Sensual Flowers" and he made an exceptional work with it. Prints, latex, fragile tulle... the color palette goes all through violet, purple, black and bluish green. Gurung's collection for SS 2012 as Araki’s work, is very pretty, but up close there is something subversive about it, over showing, explicity that hides in within, some say it was way over the top, and that some dresses show too much, I think the construction process seems outstanding and the execution of all this values in a garment (coming from images. Erotic, sexualized content, paired with some other values like sportswear and lightness) is quite an interesting take over what is feminine today.

This type of flowers print exercise seems also part of the wave of influence made by Givenchy's Ricardo Tisci.
